Welcome to
the Rhapsody in Youth and Let’s Talk Program!
Rhapsody in Youth
is a short-term self-esteem building program designed to expose
youth to many of the social issues and topics which may affect
them. The program emphasizes self-worth, social consciousness
and personal enrichment.
Through educational activities
and open discussions, participants are able to express their feelings,
to receive assistance in making socially-acceptable decisions
and to find alternative solutions to negative behavior. Rhapsody
sessions are designed to provide both adjudicated and diverted
juveniles with information and resources to develop positive decision-making
skills. Weekly topics include: anger management, substance abuse
prevention, life skills, manners, youth & the law, peer pressure,
conflict resolution, job skills, prisoner visits, etc.
Juveniles may
be required to attend selected or all sessions. Local agencies
such as the Adolescent & Family Enrichment Council, Rowan
Regional Medical Center, and DayMark Recovery Services provided
facilitators for some sessions; others are led by Youth Services
Bureau staff. Rhapsody is funded by the N.C. Department of Juvenile
Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
